Week 1 of 10: The Questions That Change Everything
We are starting our 10-week journey together—exploring what may be the ten most important questions we can ask about Scripture and the nature of reality itself.
And we begin here:
What if there is more to the unseen realm than we realize?
- Scripture speaks often of angels, spiritual beings, and heavenly places.
- But what if these are not distant ideas…
- But active realities?
- Before we go any further, we need to remember why we are taking this
“What If” approach in the first place.
- The ancient teacher Confucius is often credited with saying:
- “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute;
- The man who does not ask is a fool for life.”
- The point is simple, but profound.
- A moment of uncertainty is far better than a lifetime of misunderstanding.
- A moment of humility is far better than a lifetime of assumed knowledge.
- And when it comes to faith—when it comes to God, Scripture, and the nature of reality—those stakes could not be higher.
So we ask.
- Not recklessly.
- Not arrogantly.
- But humbly.
- Thoughtfully.
- Together.
Because growth begins where questions are allowed to breathe.
The Unseen… But Not Absent
From the very beginning of Scripture, we are introduced to a reality that exists beyond what we can see.
Not imagination.
Not metaphor alone.
But something real.
Something present.
Something active.
Angels appear, not as symbols, but as messengers with purpose.
Heaven is described, not as an abstract idea, but as a place of order, authority, and activity.
Moments occur where the veil between the seen and unseen seems to thin—where prophets see what others cannot, and where reality expands beyond the physical.
And yet, in modern faith conversations, something has shifted.
The unseen realm is often treated as distant.
Symbolic.
Even optional.
We believe in it… but rarely think about it.
We acknowledge it… but seldom explore it.
What If We’ve Made It Too Small?
What if the unseen realm is not a side note to the biblical story…
but a central part of it?
What if the physical world we experience every day is not the full picture…
but only one layer of a much larger reality?
Scripture hints at this more than we might realize.
There are moments where spiritual beings are involved in earthly events.
Moments where decisions made in unseen places influence what unfolds in the visible world.
Moments where individuals are suddenly made aware that they are not alone in ways they had never imagined.
And perhaps the most important question is this:
What if this realm has never stopped being active?
Why This Question Matters
This is not just a theological curiosity.
It changes how we see everything.
If the unseen realm is real and active:
Then our understanding of prayer deepens
Our awareness of spiritual influence sharpens
Our reading of Scripture becomes richer
And our place within God’s story becomes more significant
Because we are no longer living in a closed, physical system.
We are living within a reality that is layered…
connected…
and alive with purpose.
A Word of Caution—and of Invitation
Now, this is important.
Exploring the unseen realm is not about chasing the sensational.
It is not about speculation for its own sake.
And it is certainly not about stepping outside the truth of Scripture.
It is about something much more grounded.
It is about taking Scripture seriously enough to ask what it actually reveals.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
Because when we ignore what Scripture includes, we unintentionally reduce its message.
But when we approach it with humility and curiosity, we begin to see depth we may have missed before.
Let’s Grow Together
This journey is not about having all the answers.
It is about asking better questions.
And being willing to follow those questions wherever truth leads.
So as we begin this first step together, consider this:
What if the unseen realm is not far away… but closer than we think?
And what if understanding that changes the way we see God…
Scripture…
and even our own lives?
Your Turn
Let me ask you something personally:
Have you ever had a moment where you felt there was more going on than what you could see?
Not something you could fully explain…
but something you couldn’t ignore either?
Share your thoughts.
Because one of the most powerful realizations you may discover is this:
You’re not the only one asking these questions.
Next week, we take the next step:
What If the Bible Mentions Books We No Longer Have?
And what that could mean for how we understand Scripture itself.
